Any pain or discomfort felt in the lower abdomen, pelvic area, or the upper thigh region is often described as “groin pain.” Groin pain can be very disconcerting, and you should seek medical attention for it in the following circumstances.

* You have groin pain at the same time as back, abdomen or chest pain.

* Sudden, severe testicle pain.

* Testicle pain and swelling accompanied by nausea, vomiting, fever, chills, or blood in the urine.

You may have groin pain that concerns you, but doesn't require immediate medical attention. Schedule a visit with your doctor if you have the following.

* Blood in your urine.

* A lump or swelling in or around a testicle.

* Pain that doesn't improve with home treatment within a few days.

* Mild testicle pain lasting longer than a few days.

* Intermittent intense pain along the lower side of your abdomen (flank) that may radiate along your groin and into your testicle.

In younger individuals, such pain is more often caused by muscle pulls or strains that occur during sports activity or exercise. These injuries, are often called "groin pulls." They’re usually not serious and in most cases, such injuries heal on their own with time and rest, or rehabilitation.

You can also feel pain in the groin area from the following.

Bladder Infection
This is also known as a urinary tract infection (UTI). It results from bacteria invading the urinary tract and growing uncontrollably inside the bladder.

Kidney Stones
Usually, kidney stones cause severe back pain first. But a kidney stone can also trigger pain in the lower abdomen and groin.

Referred Nerve Pain
Injuries or other problems with the spine, such as a slipped disc or sciatica, can trigger pain that radiates or travels down to the groin.

In Men, Prostate Problems.
The prostate is a walnut-sized gland located between the bladder and the penis. As men grow older, many experience prostate enlargement. Risk of prostate cancer increases as men grow older.

Testicular Cancer
This is, of course, an extremely dangerous cause of groin pain. However, early detection can usually result in a successful outcome when diagnosed soon enough.

Women can have groin pain too. Besides menstrual pain, there are, of course, other disorders and diseases that affect a woman's reproductive organs.

These may include fibroids, cysts, tumors and conditions that can cause pain near in the abdomen and groin.
