The Toyota Land Cruiser 60
The Toyota Land Cruiser 60 Series was produced primarily for model years 1981-1990 with production extending into 1992 for the Venezuelan market. In the american market, it replaced the FJ40, with the first model within the range being the FJ60, followed by the FJ62. 60-series Land Cruisers were the first to have fuel injection, power windows, and automatic transmissions. Helping to drive competition in the emerging sport utility vehicle market, 60 Series models have a larger, more comfortable cabin than their predecessors, gifting passengers a great panorama on- or off-road. With gasoline and diesel options as well as choice of automatic or manual, the 60 Series models are durable cult classics for today’s classic car and restomod enthusiasts. Option packages included the G, GX, VX, GXL, and Sahara. In 1981, a high roof version was introduced, the purpose of the high roof being to accommodate the rear air-conditioning system. Mechanically the FJ60 was simply a progression from the tried and proven FJ40. The engine was the Type 2F 4.2 liter (4,230 cc) unit used in the later model FJ55 and other Land Cruisers. There was also a BJ60 offered fitted with the inline four cylinder 3.4 liter (3,432 cc) Type B diesel engine which produced 90 hp @ 3,500 rpm and torque of 160 lb/ft @ 2,000 rpm: the same engine as offered in the BJ40 Land Cruiser.
I first saw these in my country, Haiti, as these and the newer Land Cruiser in the market make the awesome sales for the offroad runs. And one I forgot to mention, I took a pose next to a 1986 FJ60 in July at the same car show mentioned. And the FJ62s are really a great looking model variant of it's series after the J55. But, it's progression power carries to the 80 series by 1991.
