I received a lot of requests from my supporters for more videos teaching Taiwanese.
I heard your feedback!! I am glad to provide episode 2 and continue teaching Taiwanese. 😁
I have to say that when I teach Taiwanese in my channel is not for any linguistic purpose.
l Just simply love to share Taiwanese culture with everyone.
In Taiwan we mainly speak mandarin Chinese, but if you know how to speak some Taiwanese you will definitely have deeper connection with the local people. 😊
I did not learn Taiwanese the same way I learned mandarin.  We learned Mandarin Chinese in school growing up. I picked up Taiwanese when I was little by going to my grandmother's home every summer vacation in the south. In fact, most of Taiwanese people learn Taiwanese by spending time with their grandparents, or extended family members.

If you are interested in learning Taiwanese with a system that you can follow, you can  learn by using one of the major writing systems known as -POJ (Peh-oe-ji) Pe̍h-ōe-jī (Taiwanese Hokkien: [peʔ˩ u̯e˩ d͡ʑi˨] (About this soundlisten), abbreviated POJ, literally vernacular writing, also known as Church Romanization) is an orthography used to write variants of Southern Min Chinese, particularly Taiwanese Hokkien and Amoy Hokkien.

Developed by Western missionaries working among the Chinese diaspora in Southeast Asia in the 19th century and refined by missionaries working in Xiamen and Tainan, it uses a modified Latin alphabet and some diacritics to represent the spoken language.
After initial success in Fujian, POJ became most widespread in Taiwan and, in the mid-20th century, there were over 100,000 people who were literate in POJ. A large amount of printed material, religious and secular, has been produced in the script, including Taiwan's first newspaper, the Taiwan Church News.
(information from Wikipedia) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pe%CC%8...

For better understanding, POJ is like the Taiwanese version ''Pinyin''.
I never learnt POJ, nor most of the Taiwanese people. As I mentioned before, most people from Taiwan learn Taiwanese by listening.
If you ask a person who can speak Taiwanese what is POJ, or how to say a word by reading POJ there is a high chance that they will have no clue how to read POJ.
The best place to get assistance with POJ is in the Taiwanese speaking Christian churches as their hymnals, and some of their bibles include POJ. Most of leaders in the Taiwanese Christian churches are aware of and provide teaching material using POJ. A good portion of foreigners use POJ to learn to speak Taiwanese. Note there is another major system endorsed by the MOE (Ministry of Education) of Taiwan and it’s mostly referred to as the TL version (Tâi-lô -- 臺羅 or 台羅) See information at  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C3%A2....

For most of foreigners, They use POJ to study Taiwanese.
魏約翰 and 阿勇are great examples of how to learn Taiwanese with POJ and know information on both systems.
They are real inspirations! If they can do it, you can do it too! Check out their channels here:
