Blockade in coronary arteries due to plague or blood clot can cause stable angina. These vessels are involve in the oxygen supply to myocardium for the pumping action of heart. plague can be built up due to increase cholesterol in the body and thus deposition of fatty substances on the inner layer of vessel, causing lesser available space in the vessel for the blood flow through them. when there is exercise , stress or a fight and flight response because of sympathetic nervous system activation vessels of the body constrict to limit the oxygen supply and due to increase oxygen demand heart has to pump fast but there is lesser diameter available for blood towards heart due to plague. This causes ischemic condition of heart muscles which results shift of aerobic condition to anaerobic and thus there is lactic acid accumulation which leads to chest pain. Rest and Nitroglycerin which is a vasodilator can correct this condition. It is called stable because it is not problematic at rest and amount of effort needed to trigger pain do not vary. Stable angina is also called typical, classic and effort induced angina.
