Nero, the fifth emperor of Rome, ruled from 54 to 68 AD. His reign was marked by extravagance, cruelty, and paranoia. Nero was a talented musician and actor, but he was also a ruthless dictator who killed his own mother and wife. He is blamed for starting the Great Fire of Rome in 64 AD, which destroyed much of the city. Nero's reign ended in rebellion and suicide.
