TL;DR: Converging mirrors and lenses have positive radii and focal lengths, whereas diverging mirrors and lenses have negative radii and focal lengths. Objects are almost always positive and in front of the mirror—the most notable, but rare for the MCAT, exception being multiple mirrors.

Today’s MedCat video covers concave (converging) and convex (diverging) mirrors and the sign conventions associated with each. These conventions are not that intuitive, given that we mostly see a type of mirror that is neither concave nor convex: what we call a plane mirror, or flat mirror.
