Xiaomi Pocophone F1 a few months Later: still the BEST smartphone deal?

I’ve been using this phone as a primary phone for a few months now, аfter being a Oneplus user for the last 5 years. Here’s the good and the bad!
First of all – if you are looking to get a review of a super premium looking device – this is one of the things that Poco F1 isnt. So – I will split the review in three parts – and we will talk about the good, the things that are … kind of alright and the bad.
Let’s start with the good. First is camera. It is remarkable how a 300-dollar device succeeded in surpassing phones with traditions like iphones, Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy note and so on. In short – the main reason is that the photos are bright, even sometimes a little overexposed – which most of the people tend to favor over accuracy and dynamic range. I am not saying that the camera here can compete the setup of Mate 20 Pro, or the google pixel – but it creates excellent photos for what it is worth. What Poco doesn’t do too well is to satisfy videographers. 1080p 30 fps is perfect – high bitrate, excellent electronic image stabilization – no remarks about it. But, for more than 6 months Poco are unable to bring 60 FPS shooting. 4K is rather useless, because it has no stabilization at all. And unfortunately even apps that offer doing that – like Open Camera, are restricted from stabilizing 4K, which is quite a pity.
The second fantastic feature of this phone is the battery. Coming from a Oneplus 6, it feels like I have doubled the capacity of my battery. I had to wait for a few weeks in order to make sure it is not going to degrade because of the many apps I use. Keeps on being perfect.
Price is maybe the third strongest reason to buy the Pocophone. I paid 310EUR for the 128GB version. You are going to hear it from many people. I will add something else – cheapest flagship AMOLED screen to be replaced is the Oneplus 6 – costs around 100 dollars. Around 200 for replacing the screen on Galaxy S9. The Poco F1 LCD is around 30-40 dollars!
The blazing fast Fingerprint scanner, the outstanding performance, Headphone jack, free case as part of the assembly, very good calibrated LCD screen, even stereo speakers – although the stereo is unevenly distributed. That also is quite good!
In the middle – things we can live with – MIUI – I am still getting used to it. It has the perfect standby optimization – and hats down to Xiaomi about that. Very stable, very fluid, with tons of features that often tend to be super useful. It is slightly different than the stock android, and I start to like a lot what this software provides. Little things – like – there is no need to turn on the screen in order to turn off the flashlight. There is themes support. There is FM radio APP.
What is bad… Depends on what you prioritize most. But – the lack of NFC is a huge bummer.
And – the last one – The Pocophone is not supporting 4G in the US. Even custom roms, and mods are unable to unlock bands 2 and 4 and looks like our USA friends will have to wait at least until the next generation.
At the end - this is what a true flagship killer is. Oneplus used to be with Oneplus One, but seeing their phones doubling their price for less than 4 years, I think they are heading somewhere else. And Xiaomi just gave us the new flagship killer – the Poco F1.
