The Hive Mind was unwittingly
The Hive Mind was unwittingly created by the Sovereign Colonies, as a result of military testing of the experimental Marker 3A on Aegis VII in the 2290s. When the Marker proved to be too dangerous to wield as a weapon, the SCAF aborted any further experimentation with it, abandoning it somewhere above the Hive Mind's resting place underneath the surface where it remained for the next 200 years.@yourworldgaming
