After a daring raid into, and observation of, the US Navy’s temporal looking glass at HAARP in Gakona, Alaska, guerrilla futurists at the New School Policy and Design for Outer Space (NSPDOS) delivered a stolen report from 2133 detailing a dire future. With fossil fuels depleted and the biosphere on the brink, the world needs a stable, extra-terrestrial, supra-atmospheric source of solar capture. NSPDOS operatives noticed that despite the creation of a ‘Global Union,’ the issue of such a source of renewable extra-terrestrial energy was still unsolved in 2133. As such, current NSPDOS members took it upon themselves to attempt to solve a problem the future could not.

While small, human operated missions up the Earth’s gravity well proved tenable for short term projects, the isolation associated with such a large engineering project will be psychologically deleterious. As such, there is a desperate need for a broader social infrastructure if Earth-dwellers are to ever establish a permanent solar capture habitat on Luna. With that in mind, NSPDOS, operating on behalf of the yet-to-be-born ‘Global Union’ has organized a panel of inter-disciplinary thinkers to attempt to solve architectural, psychological, and sociological issues related to long-term lunar habitation. To wit, NSPDOS is thrilled to present a conversation between Fred Scharmen, De Witt Douglas Kilgore, and Tamara Alvarez, moderated by Sitraka Rakotoniaina, on just such issues with the hope of building a sustainable future in the present.
