Tharman surprised by margin of victory in Singapore Presidential Election

President-elect Tharman Shanmugaratnam said on Saturday (Sep 2) he was surprised by the margin of victory after winning 70.4% of the vote, saying he “hadn’t expected such remarkable unity”.

The former Senior Minister also said the results showed that voters did not think having a Cabinet background diminishes a person’s ability to be non-partisan.
