Hey it's Richard here with Platinum Ponds & Lake Management. I wanted to show you here today at Forest Lake some muskrat activity. The reason we know that this is muskrat activity is that you can see on the outside of this wall how they have dug out, but the real give away is if you look here you can actually see muddy water. That muddy water is from the trails that are going up inside this wall. At first glance you would think that it might be erosion that’s happening. But you have downspouts and some connections but what muskrats are notorious for is collapsing shorelines and this definitely looks like something like muskrat activity. Just simply because of the muddy water. We haven't had rain in the last couple days. There is really nothing else that could cause that to be muddy because the rest of the lake is crystal clear. It's possible that it might be weeping in the house but highly probable that it could be muskrat activity.

We are here today at Forest Lake and we just stumbled upon some muskrat activity that we thought was the case but as we kind of come along the shoreline we see the telltale signs of the bark being skinned off of these bush's and the trimmed bushes being thrown in here. The reason we know that this has nothing to do with people is because they wouldn't take the time to skin the bark off of every limb. So once you see this activity you know you have a nuisance pest in your pond or lake.
So we wanted to share that today with you. So that you know exactly what to look for and this is one on one more reason why we do monthly management because we've been here for almost a year now and no activity whatsoever and here we are middle December just about Christmas time we're starting to see activity so we want to make sure that we get these out of here before they become a problem to the storm water system.
