This is our Samsung Galaxy A30 review. Let us know what you think about it! Well, this phone looks really good especially from the back. The back looks like glass but its actually plastic. You get these intricate patterns on the back and it just looks cool. While the glossy back and sides look good but also attract smudges and fingerprints easily. The phone is fairly slim but the grip is adequate but of course, the phone is too big to handle with a single hand. On the front, it has the U style notch with slim borders all around the screen but the chine is slightly thick, however, it’s not an eyesore. The sim tray can accommodate two Nano-sim cars and a microSD up to 512GB. The speaker, 3.5mm headphone jack and USB type C- port are all at the bottom. The volume and power buttons are at a good position and the buttons do feel clicky and rigid. The fingerprint sensor on this thing is on the back but is slightly above the natural resting position of the finger. But the fingerprint recognition is quick and consistent all the time. You have the option to use face recognition as well but it’s not very quick. There’s no raise to wake so you’ll need to press the power button to use the face unlock. In low light, the screen brightness is boosted to light up your face, but still, the face unlock is not that quick. There’s no notification LED though, however you do have the always-on display to see if you have any notifications. Overall, the Samsung A30 is a well-built phone which looks very good even with its plastic body. The one we have is blue which looks more like sky blue, there are other colors like black and red as well. The Galaxy A30 has a big 6.4 inches display. It’s a Super AMOLED panel with a screen resolution of 1080x2340. The colors are vivid, the screen is bright and it’s a joy to watch multimedia contents on this thing. It uses Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and is resilient to scratches. Now onto more hardware, the A30 is powered by the same processor as the Galaxy M30, the Exynos 7904. We get 4 Gigs of RAM and 64 Gigs of internal storage. The Galaxy A30 turned out to be a good performer when using the usual social media app and entertainment apps like Instagram, facebook youtube, and Spotify. But it’s not the most fluid experience though, as there is always a bit of lag in some part of the UI. Specifically, I found this while using play store, and also sometimes while doing as basic as moving to the Bixby screen and accessing the recent apps carousel. The Exynos 7904 does a decent job with games. It won't run the heavier titles at max settings but, Asphalt 9 Legends and PUBG run pretty smooth if you drop the graphics slightly. AS you can see here I’m playing PUBG in max settings and it's not looking smooth but after dropping the settings, as you can see its much better and smoother. Well, the Asphalt 9 runs better than the PUBG, you don't need to necessarily drop the graphics settings but it will be smoother if you do. The audio output from the speaker is not that good though. It is loud enough if you’re in a quiet place and watching YouTube or listening to Music won’t be a problem but the audio is kind of thin. It doesn’t have that dense and warm sound to it. The speaker is average at best. Now, something that Samsung has really done well is the ONE UI. A30 runs on ONE UI one top of Android pie. With the ONE UI the, you get these big icons which are better for one hand usability and they look better than the experience UI. You get the option to access notification with a swipe down on the home screen, some nifty fingerprint gesture features and double tap to wake. There's no lift to wake feature though, but the availability of the Always on display kind of makes up for it. Well, the software has really come a long way with the ONE UI. The Galaxy A30 has a 16MP primary camera with f/1.7 aperture and a secondary 5MPm wide-angle camera on the rear. The camera app offers the scene optimizer just like in the new s10’s. It detects the scene and tries to adjust the exposure and colors. Also, it enables night mode in low light conditions. But most of the time all it does is boosts the color which might not be what you want every time. The daylight shots with primary camera turn out quite decent and with the wide angle sensor, you can capture some really nice landscapes and get more of anything in the frame. But with the wide angle, you will also get a bit of distortion and the details aren’t as good as when shooting with the main sensor as the wide angle sensor doesn’t have autofocus.
