Ice and snow in the world's highest peaks are disappearing as a result of rising temperatures -- and at a much faster pace than previously thought. New research has shown glaciers across the Hindu Kush Himalayan mountain ranges are at risk of losing up to 80% of their volume by the end of the century. Glaciers in the region feed 12 rivers that provide freshwater to two billion people in 16 countries, including China, India and Pakistan. Experts have warned flash floods, avalanches, droughts and food shortages could increase dramatically in the coming years.
