Finland: VR Finnish InterCity train walkthrough showing standard class and special allergy cabins.  This clip was recorded on 15th March 2020 onboard train IC711, the 0719 Kuopio to Rovaniemi hauled by Class Sr1 electric locomotive number 3044.

From December 2019 VR announced that it will not be possible to book seats in special allergy cabins as they cannot guarantee that they are suitable for all allergy sufferers.

VR provided the following statement on its website:
“Due to the wide variety of allergies and sensitivities, and the tens of thousands of passengers traveling on our long-haul trains every day, it has not been possible to guarantee a completely allergy-free environment for all our passengers”

Despite no dedicated cabins, VR says that InterCity and Pendolino trains have allergy-friendly materials.

The Sr1 is a class of electric locomotives built for VR of Finland. These 25 kV locomotives were built in the Soviet Union at the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Factory between 1973 and 1985. Two additional locomotives of this class were built at the VR Hyvinkää Machine Workshop in 1993 and 1995, number 3111 from spare parts and number 3112 from the original prototype locomotive (number 3000) that was never used by the VR. The official classification given by the manufacturer is VL70 or ES40.

The nicknames for these locomotives are "Siperian susi" (Wolf of Siberia; in Finnish slang "susi" can also mean a poorly manufactured object, compare English "dog" or "lemon"), "Kaalihäkki" (Cabbage Cage) and "Sähköryssä" (Electric Russkie).

In December 2013 VR announced an order for 80 new electric locomotives to replace the Sr1 Class. The new locomotives, of the Siemens Vectron design, will be built in Germany by Siemens. The new locomotives are scheduled to be delivered between 2017 and 2026, resulting in the withdrawal of the Sr1 class.

Rovaniemi is a city and municipality of Finland. It is the administrative capital and commercial centre of Finland's northernmost province, Lapland. It is situated about 6 kilometres (4 miles) south of the Arctic Circle and is between the hills of Ounasvaara and Korkalovaara, at the confluence of the river Kemijoki and its tributary, the Ounasjoki.
The city and the surrounding Rovaniemen maalaiskunta (Rural municipality of Rovaniemi) were consolidated into a single entity on 1 January 2006. The resulting city of Rovaniemi is considered the largest city in all of Europe by land area, because the defined limits of the city proper extend far beyond the actual urban area.
