ZHIYUN Smooth X Gimbal Stabilizer and Selfie Stick - Full Review & Guide

This Gimbal is a hybrid between a selfie stick and a gimbal or a stabilizer. By using this Gimbal you could get more stable selfie videos. As always, in my review videos, I don't just talk about the Gimbal but do a complete review by unboxing, setting it up, demonstrating its capabilities, and testing it. First, I would start with what you can do with this Gimbal. Then, I would follow up by unboxing and setting it up. So, let's get started!

You can film in two orientations, namely landscape or portrait mode. To switch between the two, just press the M button twice. Note: Press the M button quickly otherwise it might not count as a press!

It has 3 modes, namely:
Pan Follow
Lock
And Roll and Pan Follow

1. Pan Follow Mode - Short Intro (text coming up with some music)
The Gimbal has two motors, one is Pan and the other Roll.
The LED indicator shines blue once means Pan Follow Mode. It is the default mode when you first turn on the Gimbal.

2. Lock Mode
By pressing the M button once, you enter into the Locking Mode and the LED indicator shines solid blue. Roll motor would try to hold the phone in the horizontal position and the Pan motor would try to hold the phone at a predefined position irrespective of your movements.

3. POV or sometimes it is called Roll and Pan Follow
To get to this mode is a bit more tricky. You have to quickly press the M button 4 times and then the LED indicator blinks blue twice. (show the symbol changes on the phone).


4 . Standby Mode
Hold the M button few seconds. The LED light blinks slowly. Use this mode if you want to save battery and not turn off the Gimbal. To reactivate the Gimbal, hold the M button for few seconds.  

Manual Positioning.
Go to the Lock Mode. Now, manually move the pan motor to your desire position and hold it in the position for the maximum of 2 seconds. (Footage - turn it and just move forward towards the subject).

To re-enter the Gimbal, press the M button once.

I used both iPhone 10 and Sony Xperia Premium XZ (Big & Heavy Phone)
