Video transcript:
Child CPR. In this video, we will be showing you the techniques and sequence of child CPR.

1. Always make sure the scene is safe for you and the victim.
2. Check for response by tapping the victim's shoulder and shout, "Are you okay?"
3. If two rescuers are present, then activate emergency medical services and get or call for an AED.
4. If only one rescuer is present, and if there is no response, that is, if the victim is unresponsive and not breathing, or only gasping, then shout for help and start CPR.
5. Immediately start with chest compressions. Push hard and fast, at a rate of 100 beats per minute. Count out loud "1, 2, 3, 4, 5" up to 30 compressions. For very small children, you may use either one or two hands for chest compressions.
6. Push the chest at least 1/3 the depth of the chest, or approximately 2 inches.
7. After 30 compressions, open the airway and give a breath using the head tilt/chin lift method. Give two breaths. Deliver air over one second to make the victim's chest rise.
8. Give one breath every 3 to 5 seconds for a rate of 12-20 breaths per minute.
9. Try to limit the interruptions in chest compressions to less than 10 seconds.
10. Continue 30 compressions followed by 2 ventilations, that is a ratio of 30:2.

An AED with pediatric pads which are suitable for children 1-8 years of age should be used as soon as it is available. Resume chest compressions immediately after the shock is given.

Leave to activate emergency medical services to to get an AED or defibrillator only if emergency medical services has not already been activated.

Remember, for child CPR with only one rescuer, chest compression to ventilation is 30:2. Activate emergency response system and call for AED after 5 cycles, or two minutes. For child CPR with two rescuers, compression/ventilation ratio is 15:2.  For two rescuers, change the compressor every two minutes or every 5 cycles to avoid fatigue. Rescuers should try to change the compressor role in less than 5 seconds.
