One of his features as recording medley's of film, show, artist or genre songs Alexander's Ragtime Band was a 1938 film starring Tyrone Power, Alice Faye, Don Ameche and Ethel Merman. The story traces the history of Jazz music from ragtime in the early 20th century to swing in the late 1930's. The story and songs being written by Irving Berlin. Nominated for 6 Academy Awards it won for Best Music/ Scoring for Alfred Newman.
