Tenor from South Korea - 32 years old. Singing in Round 1/Recital 4
I was born in Gwangmyeong and studied singing at the National University of Arts in Korea with Kwangsun Song and at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule für Music in Berlin with Ewa Wolak and Julia Varady. I also attended master classes with professors including Deborah Polaski, Bejun Metha, Gerd Uecker and Brigitte Fassbaender.
Awards I’ve won include 1st prize at the 2018 International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition; a special prize at the 54th International Singing Competition Concurso Internacional de Canto Francisco Viñas in Barcelona in 2016; the Youth Jury Prize at the 2020 Glyndebourne Opera Cup and 3rd prize at the International Opera Competition Meistersinger von Nürnberg 2022.
In the 2018/19 season 1 became a member of the International Opera Studio of the Hamburg State Opera, performing Scaramuccio Ariadne auf Naxos conducted by Kent Nagano. I have been a member of the ensemble at the Dortmund Opera since season 2020/21 where my roles have included Belmonte Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Camille de Rosillon The Merry Widow, Fortunatus Frédégonde, Tamino Die Zauberflöte, Leopold La Juive, Roldofo La bohème, Nagg Fin de partie and Froh Das Rheingold. In summer 2021, I made my debut at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland as Rodolfo (La bohème).
I love watching English Premier League football with chips and beer at the weekend. Also I enjoy making vocal recordings of myself in different music genres.
