Dean Lonergan was a Kiwi rugby league player in the late 80s and early 90s. He is reluctantly most remembered for a sickening head clash where he was knocked out cold and convulsing on the field…before returning to play only 6 minutes later.
Since retiring from sport, he had a very successful career in breakfast radio before reinventing himself once again and becoming New Zealand’s most well-known sports promotors, introducing the fight for life concept to NZ.
His life story is one hell of a ride with some huge highs and some very deep lows, and we cover all of them in this conversation:
- His league career then radio days
- His yearlong depression and what caused it.
- The acrimonious split with his Duco events business partner
- Why he is now back in NZ and flatting with his mum and sister. And so much more.
