Nigel Carr interviews Gaz Whelan, Happy Monday's drummer and solo artist in his own right. Gaz talks about growing up in Manchester, joining the Mondays, the madness, writing his book, playing his own solo shows in this in depth interview. Gaz joined Shaun Ryder and Brother Paul along with Mark Day, Paul Davies and Bez at the very beginning, recording the first album Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out) which came out in 1987. Produced by John Cale, it was the first in a succession of records for Factory Records culminating in the hit Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches which reached number 4. Touring with The Mondays as well as lining up a number of solo shows. Gaz plays a medley of Monday tunes such as Kinky Afro and Hallelujah as well as interspersing the shows with some of his own compositions.
