I want  to tell a little about one city.
This wonderful city is called Torrevieja.
It is located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, in the province of Alicante, which is part of the autonomous community of Valencia.
At the beginning of the 19th century, there were only a few dozen houses and an old watchtower, which gave the name to the city. The image of this tower, today, flaunts on the coat of arms of Torrevieja. The very name of the city is translated from Spanish as "old tower".
Only in 1820, after separating from Orihuela, Torrevieja became an independent administrative unit.
Torrevieja is Europe's # 1 salt exporter. At present, the production volume of this product has reached one million tons.
Torrevieja is the third largest city in the province after Alicante and Elche. The number of permanent residents is more than 100,000 people, of which only 46.4% are Spaniards and 53.6% are foreigners (British, Germans, Swedes, Russians, Ukrainians, and other immigrants from different countries). Every year, from May to October, the population increases several times due to the arrival of tourists.
Spaniards, Europeans and residents of other countries buy real estate in Torrevieja, which is used as summer residences. The growing demand for housing gave a powerful impetus to the development of the construction sector, the service and entertainment industry, which turned Torrevieja into a large modern city where people of different nationalities feel comfortable and cozy.
Torrevieja is famous for its magnificent beaches, promenades, and boulevards that stretch along the entire coastline. In the south - the beach of Naufragos, in the center of the city - the beaches of Del Cura and Los Locos. And the longest beach located in the north of Torrevieja is La Mata beach.
In total, the city's coastline stretches for 20 kilometers. And all along the coast, sandy beaches receive an annual international certification and the Blue Flag mark as the highest quality mark.
From the south and from the north, the city is protected by mountains, so there is never frost in Torrevieja, even if it snows 40 kilometers to the northwest.
Torrevieja has one of the highest sunshine days per year in Europe - 320 days. Mild cool winters with an average temperature of +12, followed by dry, moderately hot summers, with an average temperature of +25. Precipitation is rare enough, intense rains usually occur in April - May and October - November.
And also, due to the fact that most of the city is located between two large lagoons, the climate in Torrevieja is milder than in the surrounding cities. In summer there is no extreme heat, and in winter it is never very cold.
Alicante, the capital of the province, is only 47 km away. Therefore, by car, along the Mediterranean highway, you can get there in half an hour, and by bus - in an hour. There is a large bus station in the city. And regular bus routes connect Torrevieja not only with the nearest settlements, but also with most cities in Spain.
The city has many attractions. From the pier Dique de Levante, which goes into the sea for 1600 meters, there is a beautiful view of the entire promenade of Torrevieja. The pier, completed in December 2000, is now a favorite destination for fishermen and hikers. And at the bottom of the pier there is a cyclist area.
The water park (Aqualandia) covers almost 100 thousand square meters. It is not very large in terms of the number of attractions, but entrance tickets are cheaper than in many water parks in Spain.
The Park of Nations is also one of the favorite places of recreation for the townspeople. One of the most notable features of the park is the lake with a silhouette of the European continent, covering six thousand square meters. The park is home to geese, ducks, peacocks, chickens, turtles and many other animals.
The Molino del Agua Park, or the Watermill Park, is a small landscaped pine park with artificial reservoirs, paths and bridges, located in the Torrelamata area, and is considered a nature reserve.
In addition, in Torrelamate, you can take an excursion to the Cape Cala del Moro, to the tower of the same name, Torre del Moro, the symbol of our city.
There are many museums in Torrevieja: Sea and Salt, Holy Week, S-61 Dolphin submarine, Natural History of Torrevieja and others.
The city also houses the Conservatory, the Municipal Theater, the Palace of Music, and the Cultural Center of the Virgin of Carmen, where Spanish and European pop singers periodically perform, as well as concerts and theatrical performances.
There are two excellent modern hospitals in the city: Hospital Universitario de Torrevieja, awarded a gold award by the Joint Commission International, and the Quirónsalud network clinic - Quirónsalud Torrevieja.
Torrevieja is a wonderful place, with a mild Mediterranean climate and friendly people, perfect for both living and relaxation.
