Is forbearance from permissible, legal activity good consideration? It can be in English law, as long as a person gives up their right to do something they are legally permitted to do. This is illustrated through White v Bluett (1853) while an American case by the name of Hamer v Sidway (1891) is given as an example of a potentially different outcome.
