With a silhouette as iconic as the M16 or AK-47, the Fusil Automatique Léger ("light automatic rifle" or FAL) by Fabrique Nationale was the main battle rifle of many armies in Europe, Africa and South America from the 1950s to the present day. Brownells Gun Tech and firearm historian Keith Ford gives us an overview of this much-loved rifle. Nicknamed "The Right Arm of the Free World" for its service as a mainstay weapon in the global fight against the spread of Communism, the FAL was prized for its reliability, mechanical simplicity, and high rate of fire. Despite being chambered in 7.62x51 NATO, the FAL is notably pleasant to shoot due to its adjustable gas system. Keith explains the FAL's operating system, shows us how to field strip it - and tells us why it's one of his favorite rifles.
