This was a Western series, rather than a crime drama, but it certainly offered one of the best combinations of powerful musical theme with magnificent scenery. "How the West Was Won" was a 1977-1979 ABC-TV series starring James Arness, Fionnula Flanagan, and Bruce Boxleitner. Jerrold Earle Immel composed the theme.
