Manager & Supervisor Leadership Training: Time Management
"Getting Results Through Others"
Not all activities are priorities and they shouldn't be treated as such.
High payoff activities: priorities in pursuit of predetermined goals. Activities that give you the biggest bang for your buck.
A salesperson's HPAs are: sales calls, prospecting, networking
A manager or supervisors HPAs are: planning, organizing, goal setting, communicating expectations, training, delegating, tracking and evaluating results
As a supervisor or manager, you should delegate your tasks to other employees.
4 Phases to Delegation:
1. Wait Until To Do: hand over tasks to new employees that you may not have confidence in yet, overly explain task, time-consuming but worth it
2. Seek Permission Before Acting: these employees still need a little guidance but you have confidence in their abilities
3. Act and Report Immediately: you have medium confidence in this employee's abilities, give feedback quickly
4. Act and Report Routinely: you have high confidence in this employee's abilities, they have power and responsibility
By freeing up your time by delegating appropriately, you will free up your time so that you can be a better supervisor or manager.
