When it comes to fishing, there are certain places that are as seasonally dependable as Lloyd Christmas' salmon returning to Capistrano. One is the train trestle that spans eastern Lake Pontchartrain in South Louisiana. In the spring and fall, big speckled trout meet up there with flounder, redfish, black drum and blue cats to feast on bait being forced by the current around the bridge stanchions. By April and May, word is always out, and the bridge is more crowded than a Mardi Gras parade. But in March, the early birds can often have a significant length of the track to themselves.
