In this video, I will show you how to differentiate between two common conditions affecting the mouth area: herpes and canker sore. To be more precise, you will learn how STD doctors differentiate between those two common conditions in “real life.” I am (Slava Fuzayloff) an STD doctor at STDcenterNY, one of the busiest STD center in NYC. This is what you will see in the video: ✓ Why is it important to differentiate between canker sore and oral herpes ✓ How do doctors tell the difference between those two genital skin conditions? They usually consider two things in combination: o Visual exam (look at the rash) o a Context or history of the rash ✓ I will discuss visual examination for both conditions (herpes and canker sore), comparing them side by side. We will compare both conditions (side by side): ✓ General appearance ✓ I will go over the importance of the history of the sore in establishing the correct diagnosis for herpes vs canker sore The history part consists of: -Absence or presence of prodrome period -How the rash is evolving over time (or how the sore appearance changes over time) -Degree of pain the sore is causing.
