Poovar backwater is located 33
Poovar backwater is located 33 km from Trivandrum . Kerala have backwater at three locations - Alleppey, Cochin and Trivandrum. Although Alleppey backwater is the most popular but the backwater originating point or in other words estuary can only be found in Trivandrum that is the Poovar backwaters, and after watching this video you cant disagree that Poovar is no less than Alleppey.
We were on tight schedule as we only had a week at South India, during our vacation to India from New Zealand. Since, we only had only two nights in Kerela ( stayed at Central Residency Trivandrum) we did an extensive research on which backwater should we visit , as we didnt want to miss the infamous Kerela backwaters and decided on Poovar.
Although this was part of our day trip while travelling from Trivandrum to Kanyakumari by car, you can stay in the Poovar island. The Poovar island resort offers accommodation right next to the backwaters.
