This is the second part of a video series devoted to the exploration of a narrow, volatile-rich pegmatite found within Pikes Peak Batholith, Colorado.  It is a detailed and comprehensive mineral exploration within part of Pike National Forest historically known as the South Platte Pegmatite District.  Areas that garnered the greatest attention pertained to the contacts between igneous and metamorphic rock units.

Compared to Part 1, the quantity of crystals recovered from the pegmatite quadruples in this segment.  Thus, I use a geologic map to explain how chemical and physical processes have led to the formation of this pegmatite and others along the inside margin of the pluton complex known as Pikes Peak Batholith.

Video Chapters:
0:00 Overview and Topography
1:14 Geologic Significance of the Area
2:17 Observations of Eroded Pegmatite
4:10 Prospecting the Fluorite Pegmatite
16:40 Cleanup and Specimen Prep
18:18 Post-Cleanup Show and Observations
22:27 Explanation for Pegmatites Using Geologic Maps

Correction on Mineral ID: The darkest black mineral in the polished granite sample at 20m27s is hornblende, not amphibole.
