Giant Gippsland Earthworm moving within it's underground burrow

The Giant Gippsland Earthworm is one of Australia's largest earthworms. While the average size is around 1m,  it can grow up to two meters. It lives  lives underground in the blue-grey or red clay soils of South Gippsland, Victoria.

The worms live in permanent burrows and can move very quickly underground, in both directions. Here you can see a Giant Gippsland Earthworm moving through its exposed burrow.
