ILLUSTRATOR TUTORIAL (part 1) Learn How to Ink a Drawing

http://printedvillage.com/ Disclaimer: this is really hard to do if you don't have a tablet. the best way to ink using the mouse is to use the pen tool and actually draw out the shapes of the strokes you want 1) sketch out your image on paper and scan it into illustrator. snapping a pic with your phone and emailing it to yourself works too! :) 2) In illustrator select the brush tool. now go up to the brush drop down menu and double click on the "3pt. round brush" to open the options for this brush. 3) in the options change size from "fixed" to "pressure" and put the slider on the right up to 3. This will make the width of your stroke responsive to the pressure you put on the tablet. 4) now, on a new layer, go over your drawing with the brush, adjusting the pressure and wieght of your stroke depending on the value. you can also add in some line work at this point. 5) once youre done select all of your brush work, copy it, and paste it on a new layer. This is so that if you need to go back and edit the strokes you can, because after the next step they will all be converted into shapes. 6) finally, with your strokes still selected got to the object menu and click "expand appearance" and the in the same menu hit "expand" this will convert your strokes into a single solid shape, making it much easier to work with.
