Well, I never thought I’d
Well, I never thought I’d be doing a video set in Italy that didn’t include backpacking or my dog but here we are!
We went to Italy in June of 2024 for my stepson, Nick, and his long time girlfriend Haley’s wedding, preceded by some sightseeing.
Yumi, my son Todd, and myself spent 2 nights in Rome, 3 in Florence and another 3 near Assisi where the wedding took place, before spending our last night back in Rome before flying back home.
We were joined intermittently by Yumi’s children and a boyfriend in various locations before all meeting up for the wedding festivities.
Everything was stellar (thanks to my beautiful wife, Yumi’s, meticulous planning) from the architecture, sculptures, guided tours, and lodging.
We had an early challenge with transportation/language barriers but by the end of the second day we were getting around just fine. And, by the way, those Italian cab drivers…best drivers in the world in tight quarters with seemingly no traffic laws!
The wedding was beautiful and went off without a hitch. Nick and Haley did very well to put that all together in about 6 months.
Nobody got pick pocketed though Todd thought his air pods got swiped at the Vatican but in reality I picked them up by mistake and Sabrina had her carry on bag run over by a train when we arrived in Perusia (I documented the aftermath!).
The fact that her bridesmaids dress and a bottle of champagne were unscathed was quite remarkable and will surely live forever in family lore.
Overall it was a great experience…except for the flight from Detroit to Rome and vice versa. That sucked ass but both flights were actually on time!
