In Depth - Bangladesh Elections

India's eastern neighbour Bangladesh is set to witness General Elections on Sunday. A 10 crore electorate will decide whether incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be given a record third term or the reins will be handed to the opposition BNP, whose chief Khaleda Zia has been jailed on charges of corruption. The elections were earlier slate for December 23rd, but postponed by a week following demands by opposition alliances. In the run-up to the elections, Bangladesh witnessed widespread violence between the government and the opposition.
