Simple febrile seizures:
Are generalized in onset
Last shorter than fifteen minutes in duration
Occur only once within a 24-hour period
The child will have been developing normally
The neurologic examination should be completely normal.
Family history of febrile seizures is common

Complex febrile seizures may:
Be focal in onset
Last longer than fifteen minutes
Recur within a 24-hour period
The child may be developmentally delayed
And focal features or post-ictal deficits may be present on the neurologic examination.
There often isn’t a family history of febrile seizures.
