Whenever a taxpayer get registered with FBR he get a digital name for himself/herself in shape of digits. This is called national tax number (NTN). For the purpose of understanding we can categorize national tax number (NTN) into three types.
1- For Individual
2- For Association of Persons (AOP)/Partnership firm
3- For Company (Corporate)
Some taxpayers get confused and think that their registration number is national tax number (NTN) but it is not the case. The registration number of a taxpayer is his or her National Identity Card Number (CNIC), however the national tax number (NTN) is the number which is allotted by FBR to the taxpayer at the time of registering through IRIS.
One thing must be kept in mind in the case of individual taxpayers we must have to filer the income tax return for base year and pay challan of Rs.1000/- in order to become Filer. Mere getting national tax number (NTN) from FBR does not make you Filer.
