Scenes From Alaska, Big Bull Moose Shedding Their Velvet
Welcome to a new MooseMan video about bull moose shedding their velvet.
Before we begin, I’d like to clarify a moose fact today about the start of the rut. An avid and knowledgeable moose fanatic reached out to us about being accurate with our information. It involves the start of the rut. Technically, the rut starts like this.
“The rut is brought on by daylight shrinking everyday. It’s the amount of light hitting the retina of the eye that puts the cows and bulls in rut.”
So by definition the above statement is the start of the rut. We prefer to include the shedding of the velvet, (not the antler growth)….but the shedding of the velvet when antler growth is finished as part of the annual event.
We thought clarifying that is important, so now let’s enjoy today’s feature.
I’d also like to point out, (and I’ve talked about it before), Nature is complex, there are secrets everywhere. Things are constantly going on between animals that may not stand out to us. This applies to all of Nature but specifically on moose, things are constantly happening between them or between them and their surroundings that remain a secret.
