It’s directed by Faruk Kabir and comes with the tagline “Inspired From True Events”. Khuda Haafiz means “May God be your protector/Goodbye”. The plot of the movie is set during the Great Recession of 2007-2008. A newly married couple in Lucknow, Sameer and Nargis lose their jobs during this time. In a couple of months, they get jobs in Noman through an overseas recruitment agency. Being a fictitious country, perhaps, Noman was not affected by recession. Nargis leaves for Noman first and Sameer has to stay back for another few days to get his papers ready. Nargis reaches Noman and rings up Sameer, crying and seeking help. She says that she is being treated badly and the call gets disconnected. Sameer lands in Noman in search of his wife. He learns that Nargis has been kidnapped by a group of flesh traders. With the help of a driver named Usman, he finds her in a brothel. He is not able to rescue her as the building is filled with well-built Arabic men. As one would imagine, what follows is an action sequence in a typical Bollywood style. As the rule of thumb, villains attack Sameer one at a time, and he manages to escape. Another interesting thing I noticed in the movie is everybody in the country Sameer meets for help is either an Indian, a Pakistani, or a Hindi-speaking Arab. Lucky guy! Vidyut Jammwal, the action hero of Bollywood, has tried his best as an emotionally-tormented husband. Shivaleeka Oberoi did not have much to perform. She just existed. Khuda Haafiz has all the elements required for an action thriller in the right proportion - suspense, twist, chasing scenes, muscular hero, bloodshed, etc. Not sure which among these were true events. But, I felt that it could have been better. Age Rating: 15+ CANDID Eyes Rating: 3/5
