If you Honeywell digital thermostat is not connecting to wifi network, try following 9 steps to fix the problem.

#1. Try using 2.4Ghz network instead of 5Ghz. Very often thermostats are not compatible with 5Ghz networks.

#2. Unplug your Internet modem & router for 10 seconds and plug it back in. Disconnect your thermostat from the wall for 30 seconds to reset it.
Once your wifi network is back up, try to connect to it again.

#3. Try to connect to a different network, such as mobile hot spot on your cellphone. For example, on Apple devices, go to Settings, Personal Hotspot, select “Allow Others to Join”. In addition, turn on “Maximize Compatibility” to ensure your thermostat is compatible with the Hotspot network. If you are still not able to connect, your thermostat may be defective or incompatible. In my case the thermostat was able to successfully connect to mobile hot spot, but still wouldn’t connect to the home router, which tells me that the problem is with the Wifi Router settings.

Step #4. It your router is far away from the thermostat and you are using wifi boosters, repeaters or extenders, try to temporarily unplug them, and connect directly to the router. After you successfully connected your thermostat, you can turn your wifi extenders back on and they should reconnect automatically.

#5. Make sure you are not using enterprise of business network with WebPortal authentication, such as Guest network, that requires to accept terms and condition befere connection can be established. Most thermostats don’t have ability to prompt for and accept network requirements.

#6. Try using older version of “Pre-shared key” protocols on your network such as WPA2-AES, WPA2-personal, or WP2-PSK. It is possible that your thermostat is not compatible with newer WPW3 protocol, or with WP2/WP3 mixed mode. Log into your Wifi Router and switch to WP2 single mode and try to connect your thermostat again.

#7. While you are logged into your router, try using DHCP instead of static IP addressing.

#8. If you wifi has Network Access Control or MAC filtering enables, try to register MAC address of your thermostat to allow it be connected to the network.

#9. If you are connected to wifi ,but still can’t connect to the thermostat on the app, check your firewall settings, and if it’s enabled, whitelist all of the websites necessary for the communication between thermostat and cloud services.

If any of these steps worked for you, please share which step number it was it in the comments section below. Please include your thermostat model # and any other useful tips as well. Your input could be very helpful for someone else having this issue.
