Let's learn how to remove write protected from a USB disk or the pendrive. The way that I’m gonna show you worked for me, so I wanted to create this video. I don’t know if it works or not for you. You can just give a try.
I have connected a USB disk on to my laptop and the disk is listed as the ‘I’ drive. I can easily read the contents of the pendrive but when I try to write something on it, I cannot. For this demo, I’m going to copy a file which is on the Desktop to the USB disk, as we can see, the prompt says, The disk is write protected, remove the write-protection or use another disk.
Let’s close these windows and remove the write-protected. Press the windows key on your keyboard, on the search box, type Command, command prompt will be selected, run the command prompt as an administrator. Here, type diskpart and hit enter. Further, type list disk. All the connected disk drives are listed. Here you should be carefully identify the USB disk number. In my case, Disk 0 is the SSD, Disk 1 is the HDD and Disk 3 is the USB disk. From its size as well we can identify that the Disk 3 is the USB disk.
Now, type select disk and the disk number which is 3. To read the disk status, type attributes disk. Here, we can see the current read-only state is set to Yes and the Read-only is also set to Yes. This means that, the disk status has gone to read-only mode, so nothing can be written or copied or modified on the disk.
To remove the read only or the write protected, type attributes disk clear readonly and hit enter. Make sure, you have typed the command correctly. Wait until you get the message Disk attributes cleared successfully. You may get other errors as well. If so, plz don’t curse me rather research for other ways.
To confirm whether the read-only state of the disk is turned to No, type attributes disk and hit enter. As we can see, the current read-only state is No and read-only is also No.
Now, we must be allowed to write on the disk or modify anything on the USB disk. Now copying the file from the Desktop to the USB disk. We will see the file is copied to the USB disk without any issue. That means we can write or modify anything on the disk. The write-protection from the disk is now removed successfully.
