🌟 Anne Marie Newman is the visionary co-founder of the Dunwoody Chapter of NCL and a tireless advocate for service. With over 40 years of experience, Anne Marie’s commitment to philanthropy began at home and extended into the community, inspiring her daughter, Ashley, to co-create the local chapter. In this interview, Anne Marie reflects on the deep bonds between mothers and daughters that grow through their shared dedication to community service and how NCL has evolved over the past two decades.
🌟 Allegra Johnson, the Immediate Past President of NCL’s Dunwoody Chapter and a seasoned expert in hospitality, shares her unique experience of juggling her career as Managing Director of Georgia's Club Management Association of America (CMAA) with her passion for NCL’s mission. As a mother of a "Ticktocker" (the term for the young women in NCL), Allegra reveals how the organization offers a transformative journey for both moms and daughters, fostering leadership skills, cultural awareness, and a deep love for giving back.
👩👧 Through the National Charity League, mothers and daughters come together for a 6-year journey starting in 7th grade, embracing leadership roles, serving their community, and building lifelong relationships. Anne Marie and Allegra dive into the many philanthropic opportunities the girls experience, from conservation efforts at the Dunwoody Nature Center to addressing food insecurity and more. They also highlight the unique three-pillar structure of NCL: Philanthropy, Leadership, and Culture, which helps these young women grow into empowered community leaders.
🎓 Impact in Numbers: The Dunwoody Chapter currently boasts over 300 members, contributing more than 9,000 volunteer hours annually across 18 philanthropic organizations. Other annual events include their Kick-Off event in the fall, a Father-Daughter event, a Mother-Daughter event, and a Mother/Daughter Tea and Awards event in the spring.
🌐 Looking to the future, the Dunwoody Chapter is gearing up to celebrate its 20th anniversary, and NCL nationwide is preparing for a monumental 100-year anniversary in 2025!
