Welcome back to ‘the bible says what’.  Today I will summarize Proverbs chapter 22, which contains 22 of Solomon’s proverbs.  Just like in some of the previous videos, I will give you a small sample of these.  Hopefully you will spend some time to read them for yourself.
Solomon wrote: You should choose a good reputation over great riches.  The humble man and the man who fears the Lord will be rewarded with riches, honor, and eternal life.  The prudent man sees evil in the distance and hides himself.  The fool does not see it coming and walks right into it.  Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.  Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of correction will drive it far from him.
Solomon continued: the rich and the poor will all meet together on judgement day, because God made them both.  The generous man will be blessed because he gave his possessions to the poor.  But the man who increases his own riches by oppressing the poor will answer to God.  Never rob the poor or oppress the afflicted.  The Lord Himself will plead their cause, and He will spoil the soul of the fool who does these things.
Solomon taught: throw out the scorner and the mocker out of your presence, and strife will cease.  Avoid being friends with an angry man, or you will learn his ways and you will damage your own soul.  Do not cosign for a loan or guarantee any debts, or you will have your bed taken from you when you don’t have enough money to pay.  Do not move the ancient land boundaries your ancestors set up. Whoever loves purity and holiness will be friends with the king.  The diligent man who is good at what he does will work for the king.  He will not work for harsh and mean men.
The most important verse in this chapter is Proverbs 22:6 which states, ‘Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.’
The thing I think the Lord wants us to understand after reading this chapter is that people should choose a good reputation instead of money.  People should watch out for evil and hide from it.  Believers should train their children in a Godly manner, and should responsibly spank them even if it is not culturally acceptable in their country.  The rich and the poor have an appointment at the same event… judgment day.  People should not take advantage of the poor.  They should be generous to them.  And, God wants us to understand that whoever loves purity and holiness, and whoever is diligent, will have the Heavenly King as their friend.
Do you have a good reputation?  Are you generous with the poor?  Do you love purity and holiness?  Are you friends with King Jesus? Why don’t you consider starting today if you answered no to any of those questions?  Repent for your sin and turn to Jesus for salvation.  Jesus humbled himself and died on a cross to pay for your sin, and he Father raised Jesus from the dead.  God said if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and if you believe in your heart that the Father raised Jesus from the dead, you would be saved.  Why don’t you do that right now?
