Being able to aim a firearm and accurately hit targets without exposing yourself has been attempted multiple times throughout history with varying levels of success.
These ideas have been as simple as a mirror with a string (WW1), actually bent barrels (WW2 krummlauf), digital displays, smart guns on LV-426 and then back again.
We received a demo HideSight unit and tested it out. It's quite effective, proving that sometimes simple ideas really can be an excellent solution!
