Pharmacies in Thailand operate completely differently than in the western world. If you are planning to retire in Thailand, or maybe just live here for an extended period, medical care, drug availability and drug costs are important.
The great news is not only are generic medications cheaper in Thailand pharmacies than in most other countries, brand name medications are incredibly cheap, at least compared to the United States. Also, a prescription is not needed for medications that would require a prescription elsewhere, such as for Atorvastin (Lipitor), Lisenopril (Zestril), Metformin (Gluophage), Amlodipine (Norvasc), Metoprolol (Lopressor), Albuterol (Ventolin) Sildenafil (Viagra, Cialis), Fluoxetine (Prozac) and many more.
