In this tutorial we go over importing an SRT file into Premiere Pro correctly and then formatting the subtitles/captions. I do this is both Premiere Pro 2020 and Premiere 2021 (which is currently in beta).

For this tutorial, we use SRT files created by Transcriptive, but it applies to any SRT file regardless of where it was created.

If you're only interested in Premiere 2021, jump to the 2:50 mark of the tutorial. This uses the 2021 beta (i.e. 14.9 beta), but at this point it seems unlikely to change. So this should be accurate for the release as well. To get the beta, just go to the Beta section in Creative Cloud.

For 2020, the Import Settings in the lower left corner of the Caption panel is really important for getting SRT files to come in correctly. You can also fix individual files by right clicking on them and going to Modify:Interpret Footage.

This is brought to you by Digital Anarchy's Transcriptive. The best way to get A.I. transcripts into Premiere. They're incredibly accurate and you can edit them right within Premiere. This means you can search every transcript in your project, use the text to actually edit your video, create captions and even send the transcript to a client using a web browser for review and editing. It's a very powerful, well rounded solution for Premiere Pro.
