On the night train from Amsterdam to Innsbruck - over 1000 km across three countries.
Our reporter Patrick Wira is on the road for almost 13 hours. He wants to know: is the night train a serious travel alternative?
The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) has increased its range of night trains in recent years. German night trains won't run in the next few years either, Deutsche Bahn says: Night trains don't pay off.
The ÖBB night trains offer different sleeping options. In the inexpensive 6-seater compartment you pay around 50 euros per night. The slightly more comfortable, but also more expensive variant is in the couchette car with up to 4 couches. In the deluxe version, there are even double rooms with their own bathroom - and shower!
But sleeping is not that easy - it jerks and it is quite loud. It takes getting used to, says reporter Patrick Wira.
