What if I told you
What if I told you you can make a delicious gumbo roux in just 10 minutes? Anyone who has made gumbo knows that making the roux is a tedious and time consuming task. My microwave method will reduce the time it takes to make a gumbo roux that's as good as making it the traditional way.
Shopping List:
1 cup oil, such as canola or vegetable
1 cup all purpose flour
Directions:
In a microwave safe bowl such as a 4 cup Pyrex measuring cup, mix together the oil and flour. Whisk well until smooth and no lumps appear.
Place the cup in the microwave for 5 minutes. Remove and stir vigorously. Place back in the microwave for 1 minute intervals, stirring between each interval until your roux has turned a chocolate brown color. This will take about 10 minutes.
Proceed with the rest of your gumbo recipe steps.
