Vera, having buried her mother, gets a job as a maid in a luxurious mansion. The house is very strange: on the second floor there is a room where entering is strictly prohibited; Vera has never seen the owner. Only from the strange noise from the second floor does she realize that this is where the mysterious owner lives.
By chance, when a robber breaks into the house, Vera meets the owner of the mansion, Leonid. She learns that the man has lost his daughter, for whose death he blames himself. Vera’s care gradually helps Leonid “come out of the cocoon” and return to a full life; sympathy arises between them.
