STORYLINE:
More than 60 folkloric troupes from across Morocco are taking part in the country's 53rd popular arts festival in Marrakech.

The National Festival of Popular Arts celebrates Moroccan cultural heritage, bringing together artists from across the country.

Folkloric troupes regaled the crowds with street and on-stage performances featuring traditional songs and dances.

The Ahwash, Gnawa, Ahidous and Daqqa troupes from Marrakech took part in the event alongside the Aissaoua troupe from Fez and Abidat R'ma from Oued Zem city.

Organizers say the festival aims to preserve Moroccan culture and cultural identity as the artists pay tribute to their ancestors and introduce their art to the world.

"The great poets who were with us before are disappearing. Now only the music remains, and we still preserve it," said Ouali Fekkar, a performer with Ahidous folkloric troupe from Khenifra.

Shows were held across Marrakech at different sites including Jemaa el-Fna Square, the Royal Theater and Harti Park.
