Ukrainian children with disabilities who were evacuated from hospitals across the country arrived in Poland on Thursday.

The 15 children, alongside volunteers, doctors and relatives, crossed into the border town of Medyka, before boarding a makeshift medical train towards Gdynia as part of their journey onto health facilities within Poland.

Dominik Daszuta, one of the doctors accompanying the children, said the train was equipped with medical equipment meaning the children could receive the required care during their voyage.

The children, who were all below or around the age of 10 Daszuta said, were helped onto the train by emergency workers and volunteers.

More than 2 million refugees have fled Ukraine since the Russian invasion two weeks ago, including more than a million children, the UN refugee agency has estimated.
