Ahoy! Enjoy the process of painting this lovely Tall Ship to some sea shanties. The original Kalmar Nyckel was a Swedish Tall Ship (a traditionally-rigged ship) launched in 1625, and built by the Dutch. The name originates from Swedish city of Kalmar, with "nyckel" meaning key. She's best known for carrying Swedish settlers to North America in 1638, with a total of four round-trip voyages across the Atlantic, more than any other documented ship of the era! She was then sold to Swedish Navy in 1644, and was decommissioned in 1651. The ship depicted here is a replica of original Kalmar Nyckel launched in 1997 and lives in Wilmington, Delaware, and still sails worldly voyages today.

This oil painting  was donated to the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation in Delaware to help raise money, due to the loss of funding and of education programs because of the pandemic. As a Tall Ship enthusiast, I wanted to help out in the best way I could.
